Every New Years Eve, a parade of classic cars cruise down Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena. This spectacle could be called the ‘Rose Bowl of Classic Cars. Many of the rides have been immaculately restored to their original beauty. There were so many tricked-out Model T’s that Henry Ford would have been left speechless. Other classic cars were fire-breathing hot rods with flames racing down its side. You could also find muscle cars of the ’60’s and lo rides of the 70’s. Most of the machines were in mint condition; showroom masterpieces. Tailpipes roared. Chrome-plated engines rumbled. Air horns aaahoo0ga’d.
Old Town Pasadena shops served as a fitting backdrop for these works of art on wheels. I pitched my easel to paint en plein air on the corner of Colorado Blvd. & Pasadena Ave. and to capture the flavor of the festive atmosphere.
Pray for Our Police Officers
Film crews from local television stations and major networks were on the streets interviewing parade goers. It just so happened that Pasadena Chief of Police, Phillip Sanchez showed up shortly after I had begun my painting. He was there to be interviewed by a television reporter, so I didn’t have a chance to tell him that we were still praying for him and his department as he had requested when he visited our church, Abundant Harvest Christian Center.
Pray for Our Community
Something the City of Pasadena certainly doesn’t to be a major news event at this time is the gang violence that has plagued the city recently. On Christmas day, Victor McClinton, a community leader who worked tirelessly to help the youth in the area, was tragically gunned down. He was an innocent bystander. Please pray for Victor’s family and that the Prince of Peace would would be made known on the streets of West Pasadena and Altadena.
Time for a Tract
I have learned many things over the years of painting and ministering at events such as the Rose Parade. One is; people are not often interested in getting into long discussions about spiritual matters. Therefore, I like to at least put a Talent Search tract in their hands as they pass by. Some have paused to thank me when they discover its contents.
Having completed two paintings before noon, I figured I’d find another scenic spot to paint where I could watch more classic cars go by.
