Do you sometimes feel like this billboard that doesn’t make the right impression on others? That’s the way I felt after spending nearly an hour on this street painting en plein air. A few people passed me by but didn’t stop to see what I was doing. So I simply extended to them the Talent Search tract, which they accepted.
There will always be times like this when we need to remind ourselves of the scripture to ‘walk by faith, not by sight’ (II Corinthians 5:7).
I’ve designed a few billboards in the past and know from talking to the experts on design and installation of large-scale signage that the message will not connect with every person who passes it. It’s also true that the more often a person is exposed to the message, the more likely they are for a ‘buy-in’. That’s one reason advertisers will replicate the same artwork on multiple billboards around the city, knowing that their message will eventually reach its target audience.
If you’ve been spreading the gospel message, don’t be discouraged if it appears that others aren’t paying attention. The scriptures state, ‘So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.’ (Isaiah 55:11)
So how can you be sure to make the right impression? Simply keep exposing others to the message. Not everyone will receive, but you have God’s guarantee that if it’s His message, it will succeed. And remember, there’s no message of greater scale or significant than God’s word.
