Seeking the Lost With West Angeles Church of God in Christ

with No Comments

This past Saturday (7-28-12), I teamed up with Evangelist Biggs and the outreach team of  West Angeles Church of God in Christ to seek the lost on Crenshaw Blvd. in Los Angeles. Going out with my easel to present the saving grace of Jesus to curious onlookers is a reward in itself. However, it was a special blessing to be so warmly accepted as a team member even though I’m not a member of West Angeles. This is the way it should be among all churches who claim Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Take a Stand

When I arrived at the West Angeles Church of God in Christ base camp, (a parking lot on 30th and Crenshaw Blvd.), we had a time of praise and worship. I am thankful that we live in a nation where we could do that in public view and not be persecuted or killed for our beliefs. However, as I consider the dust-up from the gay community and their supporters over the stand for traditional marriage taken by Dan Cathy, COO of Chick-fil-A, it appears that the heat is  being turned up on Christians who take a bold/Biblical stand for present-day issues affecting the future of our nation.

Before going to the streets, we prayed for God’s guidance and protection. Then I took my easel to the north-east corner of Jefferson St. and Crenshaw Blvd. and began to paint en plein air. I was next to a construction site, so I had to stand outside the narrow walkway. It was not a suitable place for people to stop to see what I was doing, so I passed out tracts as they passed by.

Ministry to Muslims

Across the street from me was a Muslim selling pies and papers. Later in the afternoon, I was able to talk at length to a young Muslim man about Jesus. He said he had been a Muslim from birth.  This gave me the opportunity to tell him about being born again. I told him that since he was born a Muslim, he had no choice about the matter. Then I told him that only if he chooses could he become a Christian. He didn’t make the choice at that moment, but the seed of God’s word has been sown in his heart.

My thanks again for West Angeles Church of God in Christ.
