3 men on Road to Emmaus

Road to Emmaus – Jesus Reveals His Presence in the Old Testament

Some people claim that Jesus appeared and interacted with people long before he appeared in Jerusalem. Is that true? He made some amazing revelations on the Road to Emmaus.

The answer is in the Bible. Here’s the backdrop; Jesus had been crucified and laid in a sealed tomb. We’ll pick up the story three days after His death.

Stranger on the Road to Emmaus

Men on Road to Emmaus

Two of Jesus’ followers were walking home from Jerusalem, a seven mile trek. A man joined them on the way. He asked them why they were sad. They responded, calling Him a stranger for not knowing what just happened in Jerusalem?”

So they broke it down; they told how Jesus had been killed, including who set Him up. The two men had been hoping Jesus would be their deliverer, but now all hope seemed lost hope.

Plus, their heads were spinning because some of their lady friends had gone to His tomb and found it empty. The women went on to say that some angels had talked to them. Of course, the men in the city thought they were weaving fairy tells so they went to the tomb to check out their story. Go figure.

Then the stranger said, “Fools, your heart is slow to believe the prophets. Shouldn’t Christ have gone through these things and enter into His glory.”

Jesus Was Here Long Ago

So the stranger laid out the scriptures concerning Himself, beginning with Moses and including all the prophets. Still, the men didn’t have a clue Who was schooling them on the Bible.

Seven miles and several hours later, the two and the stranger arrived at their house. They brought out some bread. That’s when they finally saw the light. Their traveling companion was Jesus all along. His words gave them heart burn, the good kind as only the Healer could give. Then poof!, He vanished out of their sight.

So the two jumped up right away and high-tail-it back to Jerusalem. They had to share this amazing story with their partners.

Back in Jerusalem, Jesus appears again; seemingly out of thin air. He has another bite to eat, enlightened them, set them on their mission, then vanished again.

You really have to read the whole story for yourself. Look in the Bible; New Testament, book of Luke, chapter 24.

What I want to leave you with for now are these words of Jesus, also found in chapter 24 of Luke, verses 27 and 44.

Verse 27 states: And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

Jesus says in verse 44: “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”

In an upcoming video, we’ll take a look at just some of the things that Moses, all the prophets and Psalms said about Jesus. You’ll be blown away!
