PETA has a beef with the Bible

PETA Has a Beef With the Bible

PETA is the acronym for… People Eating Tasty Animals 🙂

Oops. PETA: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

I have to begin this article with a little levity because I laughed when I first read PETA’s rewrite of the Biblical book of Genesis. When I realized that PETA was not trying to be funny, I became concerned. Imagine this: the most sacred and holy book that can enlighten humanity is now being perverted by PETA to fit their agenda.

I know there are many kindhearted, caring people who support PETA. They genuinely care for animals. It’s to the leadership of PETA and those rewriting the Bible that I give this warning…According to the Bible, you are putting your life in harms way by tampering with it.

Here’s my condensed summary of the opening chapters of Genesis as it has existed for thousands of years.

God created Adam and Eve. They dwelt together naked and unashamed. God placed them in the Garden of Eden with a variety of trees that were good for food. They could eat from every tree but one. If they ate from that one tree, they would die. Through the trickery of a serpent (the devil) Adam and Eve ate from the forbidden tree. They became aware of their nakedness and covered themselves with fig leaves. God clothed them instead with animal skins, then kicked them out of the garden.

It’s clear from the conclusion of this brief summary of Genesis that God was the first One to kill an animal. Why did God do that?

  1. One of God’s rules said that blood had to be shed in order to be a cover for a person’s disobedience, aka, sin. Instead of shedding the blood of Adam or Eve, God killed an animal.
  2. Animal sacrifice could only cover, not eradicate sin. So, God decreed that His Son would would be sacrificed (killed) for the sins of all humanity. Jesus died on a cross, then rose from the dead. Anyone who believes in Jesus and accepts Him as their Savior will be forgiven for all their sins. They will live with God for eternity.

The PETA verses – People Entering Treacherous Areas

Let’s look at PETA’s rewrite of Genesis ‘to make it more animal friendly and vegan’. These are exact quotes from their May 3, 2023 press release.

  • ’PETA Goes Biblical With ChatGPT Vegan Rewrite of the Book of Genesis.’
  • The Bible has long been used to justify all forms of oppression, so we’ve used ChatGPT to make it clear that a loving God would never endorse exploitation of or cruelty to animals
  • …animals are referred to as “beings” rather than “beasts” or “creatures”—and plant fibers, like hemp and bamboo, are used in place of animal skins for clothing…
  • in Genesis Chapter 22, Abraham travels to the land of Moriah and befriends a gentle lamb to show his reverence and respect for God’s creation, rather than slaughtering a ram to demonstrate his faith.
  • When Abraham and Sarah— conceived their child, Isaac—they add to their growing family by adopting a dog named Herbie.

I mentioned that I thought PETA was making a joke. Maybe they are and I’m taking them too seriously. Whether it’s a joke or not, what they are doing is extremely dangerous.

What the Bible says about tampering with scripture

Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.

If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

What the Bible says about eating meet

For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him.

The shedding of blood was necessary for us all

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’

Leviticus 17:11

…without shedding of blood there is no remission (forgiveness of sin).

Hebrews 9:22

Jesus shed His blood; died on the cross for you. He then rose from the dead for you. If you’ve never done so, I encourage you, invite Him into your life today, for the days are getting darker. Your days will become brighter.
